1st November 2011.

Semester 1, Week 4.

So after an incredibly busy week last week, i'm glad to be getting back into my 'slightly less busy' routine :)

Since my last post, I got the chance to travel to York and took part in a journalism workshop with Channel 4.
It was such a fantastic experience and I got to meet the incredible and lovely, Lucille Howe.
She started her career as an actress but soon found her talent for writing.
Lucille gave us some great tips about writing and really inspired me to begin my work as a journalist. Make sure you check out her website!

Hopefully this will be me as a journalist in Paris one day! (image is from Lucille's website)

Here's what you missed on todays show!

BIRTHDAY SHOUTOUTS
Anybody celebrating today must be drop dead gorgeous - partying with you today is Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai who believe it or not is 38! The star is also due to give birth anytime now to mid November, best of luck!
Barbara Becker, actress and model also turns 44 today.

Aish back in 1994 when she won Miss World, still a stunner to this day!

AROUND THE GLOBE

On the globe today we had, VICTORIA BLAND from the land of sheep and cumberland sausages, CUMBRIA! Victoria is a second year psychology student who despises spiders but loves Bruno Mars! Here's what I found out...

N: Hey Victoria! So how long have you lived in Cumbria and where abouts are you from?
V: 19 years, my whole life and I'm from Workington.
N: So what is Cumbria most known for?
V: The Lake District definitely. I've been there alot, you just go for long walks and can stay there too.
N: So do you stay in log cabins or B&B's or what?
V: Yeah they have either, lots of B&B's but I've never stayed.
N: Guess you don't need to cause you live there, alright for some! Cumbria was in the news for the floods in 2009 and apparently you had an earthquake late last year?
V: Yeah, I was in bed when my house just started to shake, it was so weird. I wasn't affected by the floods cause luckily I live on a hill but yeah, it was pretty bad.

the floods in 2009.

N: Yeah, that was lucky, it must have been so scary. What about famous food dishes, got any specialities?
V: We're known for our Cumberland sausages and sticky toffee puddings.
N: Mmmm so do you eat that alot then?
V: No...not really.
N: Oh my god, I would if I lived in Cumbria! ha, and who would you say is the most famous person from Cumbria?
V: Ermmm, probably William Wordsworth, the poet.
N: Oh yeah! I studied some of his poems at GCSE actually, thats so cool. Any other interesting facts we should know?
V: Ummm, Radio 1's Big Weekend was held in Carlisle this year.
N: Of course, did you manage to get some tickets or know anyone that went?
V: No I didn't get any cause you had to apply but I know some people who went and they said it was great!
N: Ah awesome, well thanks for being on the Globe today Victoria!
