AROUND THE GLOBE

Today on the Globe I was joined by Liam Harkins, a screenwriting and film studies Staffs student from the land of bagpipes and kilts, SCOTLAND! Apart from his beautiful accent and our love for acting here's what I found out...

N: So Liam, how long have you lived in Scotland, where abouts are you from?
L: I live near Glasgow and have lived in Scotland pretty much all my life!
N: What are the most famous sights?
L: Edinburgh Castle and the Wallace Monument where the English and Scottish fought. Oh yeah and Loch Ness!
N: Ah right, I've seen Edinburgh Castle, its soo beautiful! So other than kilts and bagpipes, really stereotypical I know ha, what else is Scotland most known for?
L: The Braveheart statue you know the movie, with Mel Gibson.
N: Oh I love that film! Thats cool, and what about food? Whats the speciality?
L: Umm, it'd be Haggis.
N: I thought you'd say that! What exactly is it and does it taste good?
L: Well you might get put off it but its sheeps intestines and yeah it does actually taste nice. I've only had it once or twice in my life though.
N: Ah no, i'm alright with stuff like that! And what about shortbread? Isn't that Scottish? I loveee them.
L: Yeah shortbread is Scottish, i'm not a fan myself though.
N: What about celebrities? Whose the most famous person?
L: History wise it'd be William Wallace, Braveheart.
N: Any other interesting facts we should know?
L: Well the guy who made television was a Scotsman. John Logie Baird invented the first television.
N: Oh wow, I never knew that! We have a lot to thank the Scots for then!

Liam also said he'd never had a bagpipe lesson or played the bagpipes before BUT FEAR NOT LADIES, he's worn a kilt for prom! Huuuuuge thanks for being on the show and teaching me more about the Scots!

DID YOU KNOW?
Scotland was the first in the world to have its own fire brigade. Scots to the rescue!

BIG WELL DONE to Reece Syvret who won a pair of Gobble tickets. He guessed the correct song, it was... Just Can't Wait To Be King - Lion King.

JOIN ME NEXT WEEK for more free Gobble tickets and my special guest on the show, we're moving back into England with Michael from Nottingham!

11th October 2011.

Semester 1, Week 1

So it was my first day back in the One Media Radio studios yesterday and it was so much fun!
Over the summer I was trying to think of something new to add to my show. I felt quite pressured to spark up an interesting idea after being awarded Best Female Presenter which I was totally chuffed at!

After a few brainstorms I came up with an idea.
I was especially excited yesterday as I introduced the new feature "Around The Globe."

My university, (Staffs) is filled with people from all over the world so I thought why not take advantage of this and learn more about where people come from?
I was joined by my partner in crime, Abigail Malbon to learn more about Stoke - at the heart and soul of our uni!

Here's what I found out:
N: So Abz how long have you been living in Stoke?
A: All my life, born and bred.
N: And what is Stoke most known for?
A: Potteries! and Royal Doulton, my mum used to work there actually.
N: What about foods? Apart from the burger van in Hanley and Brunchies!
A: Oatcakes! If you're a fresher and haven't tried oatcakes, you have to! Cheese and bacon mmmm.
N: Yeah you have to try them, they are so yum! Before I came to Stoke, I knew Robbie Williams was born and grew up in Stoke, are there any other Stokies in the limelight?
A: Actually yeah, Jade who has just won Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model. She went to my school and was in the year above me.
N: Ah, you'll have to congratulate her for me then!
A: Well she kinda lives in London now...
N: Okay i'll congratulate her then! haha, so any other interesting facts we should know about Stoke?
A: This is good for One Media Radio actually because, did you know Stokies love to listen to the radio. BBC Radio Stoke is the most listened radio station, amongst BBC stations!
N: Well thats good for us then! haha!

It was great getting to know more about Stoke and where I now live.

DID YOU KNOW?
Oatcakes were actually supposed to be chapatti's. When Stokies in the British Raj came back from India they tried baking chappatti's but didn't have the correct ingredients - and then the OATCAKE was formed!

BIG WELL DONE to Victoria Bland for winning a pair of Gobble tickets.
She guessed the correct Disney song, it was....Under The Sea - Little Mermaid.

JOIN ME NEXT WEEK for more free Gobble tickets and my special guest, Liam from Scotland!
